Jevan as teacher

Today in class Mr. Schick let Jevan be the teacher. We went over and talked about the questions we had to answer about the CIA Factboook. I found out a lot of information i didn't know. We talked about what countries had the most airports and the most cell phone use and things like that. I think the CIA Factbook will be useful for research.

New Chapter!

Today we started chapter two. We learned about population, immigrants, cruel birth rate, cruel death rate, etc. We compared our population to other countries. We found out that more people are leaving Mexico than coming. We talked about people leaving Mexico, Canada, the United States and Chad. We talked about why people want to leave countries and listed some pro's and con's. People come to new countries for better economics, more jobs, health insurance. Many people leave and go to Canada because they have better health benefits. Some con's that it could be hard to find a job and sometimes you could be considered an illegal immigrant.

Our First Test

Today we took our first test in Human Geography. I thought the test was really easy and i think i did good on it. There was an essay about Infrastructure, Socrates, and globalization. My hands hurt after writing the essays! A message to Garcia, the Greek vocab, Socrates, Globalization and Infrastructure was what was on the test. I was expecting the test to be a lot harder then it was. While we were waiting for everyone to finish we were aloud to work on homework in the back of the classroom but if we wanted to use our laptops so it didn't distract others. I studied for math because i have a math quiz today. Hopefully we get our test's graded soon because i want to know what i got!

Preparing for the test

Today in class we presented our power points to the class. We discussed the pro's and con's of globalization and we talked about infrastructure and interconnecting countries. We said how each country is becoming less unique because they are taking after other countries culture. Then we prepared for our test tomorrow. He told us whats going to be on it and gave us hints for the essay question.

Nike Trying to Scam Again

Today in class we discussed the video we watched about Indonesia. Mr. Schick told us that now it has gotten a little better because workers are getting paid $4.00 a day. Now Nike is trying to save money and go against the law by only paying their workers $3.70 a day. I don't think this will happen because now the world is more aware of this problem and the law won't allow it. I think all factory workers should be getting paid the same amount of money.

Workers in Indonesia

In class we watch a documentary made by two people named Jim and Leslie. Jim had a job coaching one of the best soccer teams around. They offered him and the school a lot of people if the team would wear Nike apparel and play with their equipment. Nike wanted to make a deal but Jim went and did some research. Jim discovered that the works in Indonesia that work in the Nike factory only get paid $1.25 per day. Jim and Leslie went on a mission trip to see what it would be like to live on those wages. Jim said all you would buy was two meals and he lost 25 pounds while living there. Jim and Leslie wanted to do something about this so they made it public and it started to go worldwide. Jim tried talking to the CEO of Nike but he refused to talk to him. I found this video very interesting and cool to watch because we don't know whats going on in other parts of the world.

Does Globalization Effect Us?

Today in Human Geo Mr. Schick let someone else teach the class. Then we discovered that I don't like america and that the internet connection wasn't working. Finally we had a teacher come a fix it. We searched Wikipedia for more information about globalization. Then Steven had an idea of making a power point with a group about the pro's and con's of globalization. Logan and I made our power point and found some good sources.

Today in class we looked at the picture of the McDonald's and KFC again and we also looked at new photos. We talked about globalization and infrastructure. We talked about why it is important to be able to speak another language and how it would be useful to be able to speak Chinese. We talked about how movie making is the biggest industry the US has.

He also told us about the students who were affected by it. Then we talked globalization and he looked at a picture of KFC and McDonald's that was built together.

Sharing a Document

Today in class we got into groups and learned how to create a template that we can share with other students in the class. It was really fun and cool to see that you can work on the same document while in four different places. It was really funny when Logan wrote "shut up Payton" and then Mr. Schick put our document up on the board and he saw it. We typed up questions that we thought would be useful for the test with our group. I think that this tool that we learned today can really help us in the future.

Carly Teaches The Class

Yesterday in class the first thing we did was talk about the abortion signs that we saw while coming into school that morning. Mr. Schick asked us our opinions about it and then Mrs. Ball came over the announcements and told us more about the protesters. Then Mr. Schick decided to let Carly teach our class today. She asked us about our blogs from the night before and asked us to share what facts we thought were interesting. We talked about them for a long time. We had some spare time at the end of class so then we started talking about if John Carroll is different from our old school. We also talked about computer support and demerit's and detentions.

Did You Know Video

Today in class we watched a video about how our world has changed and advanced. One of the things that caught my attention was that soon China will be the most English speaking country. That surprised me because you would think the US would have the most people who speak English. Sometimes i think China is over powering us. Another one was that India has more honors kids then America has kids. That just shows how much bigger India is then the US. Another one that struck me was that the top 10 in demand jobs didn't even exist in 2004. This shows how much technology has advanced in the past few years. It makes me wonder what job i'm going to have and what jobs are going to be coming soon

What the Greek Did For Us

Today in class we review Greek definitions from the homework last night. We learned about how the Greek were the ones who started democracy. At first it was only guys who participated in democracy but later it changed into men and woman. We learned about Socrates and his method. His method is questioning everything we are taught.
